|The Link Management Limited (“The Link”) is supporting Greeners Action’s “Lai See Packet Recycle & Reuse Programme” for the fifth consecutive year to encourage the public to recycle and reuse their lai see packets in the wake of Chinese New Year. As a “Diamond Packet Sponsor” this year, The Link has placed collection points at 100 of its shopping centres, up from 80 last year, all across Hong Kong so that shoppers can participate in this meaningful event more conveniently.
The Link promotes sustainable development in a number of ways, which include supporting various types of environmental initiatives. The Link has thrown its full support behind this year's "Lai See Packet Recycling Programme" by effectively making use of its wide network of shopping centres. Collection points have been set up in various districts in Hong Kong so as to facilitate people to participate in this campaign. Also, reusable lai see packets make better use of resources by reducing waste. Packets collected from last year's event were distributed free of charge at 32 shopping centres of The Link before Chinese New Year.
The kick-off ceremony for this year’s event was held at The Link's Lei Yue Mun Plaza on 9 February (Today). Wong Kam-sing, Secretary for the Environment, was invited to officiate at the ceremony together with event sponsors and recycling industry representatives.
Angus Ho, Executive Director of Greeners Action, said, "The goal of this event isn't necessarily to recycle lai see packets as waste paper, but to reuse the packets. Therefore, hopefully people won't fold, tear or write on their packets so that we can extend the life of them. Moreover, we hope that people will apply the concept from this event to their clothes, New Year’s couplets and even furniture, and welcome a new, greener year by questioning the traditional Chinese viewpoint of 'out with the old, in with the new'."
Hilda Wong, Head of Marketing of The Link, said, "The Link promotes sustainable development in many different ways, which include supporting environmental initiatives that engage our stakeholders. This is The Link's fifth year of supporting Greeners Action’s Lai See Packet Recycle & Reuse Programme, and we are happy that we have increased the number of participating shopping centres from 80 to 100 in many neighbourhoods across Hong Kong. We hope that this programme will heighten the public's awareness of green issues as more people can participate."
