  • Link offers shoppers of its fresh market a total of $5 million worth of cash coupons through AlipayHK platform
  • AlipayHK will provide each new user with $70 worth of welcome rewards in July, which can be used at Link's shopping malls and fresh markets.

Link and AlipayHK announced today (Thursday) the launch of a shopping offer at Link’s fresh markets to drive digital payment transformation. In tandem with the Hong Kong SAR Government’s electronic consumption voucher scheme, Link will offer shoppers of its fresh market a total of $5 million worth of cash coupons exclusively through the AlipayHK platform. This initiative will directly benefit AlipayHK users who shop at Link’s fresh markets and drive sales to the nearly 2,000 stalls at 26 Link’s directly managed fresh markets, supporting those retailers to embrace the growing digital payment trend.

In addition, AlipayHK will provide each new user with $70 worth of welcome rewards and various other cash rewards in July, which can be used at Link's shopping malls and fresh markets.

Gary Fok, Link’s Director for Leasing (Hong Kong) and Asset Management (China), said, "Digital payment minimises contact with objects and enables a more convenient and hygienic way of transaction. At Link we are committed to enhancing shopping experience and driving sales to its retail tenants. We hope this joint initiative will encourage broader adoption of e-payment services at a time when the Hong Kong SAR Government is prepared to roll out the electronic consumption voucher scheme.”

Venetia Lee, General Manager of Alipay in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan, said, "Since day one, AlipayHK has been helping small and medium-sized enterprises do business. Throughout the pandemic, we have supported them to transform digitally through the adoption of contactless e-payment. As part of this effort, since both AlipayHK and retailers serve the same consumer base, we will be offering $70 worth of welcome rewards to newly registered customers, with additional offers to those opting to receive various e-vouchers via AlipayHK. We hope this joint initiative will attract more customers to patronise small and medium-sized retailers at Link's shopping malls and fresh markets using AlipayHK, boosting retailers’ sales and contributing to the Hong Kong economy."

In addition to a waiver of the installation fee, retailers which newly applies for an AlipayHK Merchant Code will enjoy a waiver of handling fee during the period when the Government’s electronic consumption vouchers are in use. Retailers using AlipayHK can also receive payments from Alipay’s Mainland users. In the Greater Bay Area alone, Alipay has 70 million users.

Mr Ho, a poultry stall owner at Wo Che Market in Shatin, welcomed the joint initiative by Link and AlipayHK. He said, "After signing up for the e-payment system in mid-2020, I have seen an incremental increase of customers using digital payment. My sales have grown by nearly 10% since. I hope Link’s cash coupon offer, together with the $5,000 e-voucher from the Government, will help channel more business to small retailers like us.”
